Many people have needs these days that they didn’t have a couple of years ago. I have found that the organizations linked from my website are truly interested in helping our fellow Nevadans in time of need. Probably the most comprehensive website is Nevada 2-1-1 for accessing a number of services. Other organizations have more specific missions and I’ve included some of those as well.
To reach Nevada 2-1-1 callers can simply dial 211. The link to their website is http://nevada211.org You can find out about . . .
Governor’s Office for Consumer Health Assistance: http://govcha.state.nv.us
In addition to the resources of Nevada 211 and the Consumer Health Assistance listed above, I use other agencies as well . . .
Clark County Social Service:
Senior protection - if you are a victim or if you suspect someone of elder abuse, neglect, exploitation or isolation, please report it to the authorities at 455-8672.

Much of my legislative work has centered on senior citizens and veterans. I rely on the many veterans who work closely with me on the issues affecting those who have served our country in the armed forces. On a broader level, the following sites are always helpful . . .
The U.S. Department of Veterans’ Affairs: http://www.va.gov is a great place to find forms and applications as well as news affecting veterans.
On that site, there is a direct link for women veterans and their specific issues. Here’s the shortcut: http://www.vba.va.gov/bln/21/Topics/Women/index.htm
For federal legislation affecting veterans, I like to use the the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs to follow legislation or find other sources of information: http://veterans.house.gov
Two well-known groups advocating for veterans on issues from health care, Agent Orange, post traumatic stress and many other topics are the American Legion: http://www.legion.org and the Veterans of Foreign Wars: http://www.vfw.org
Utility company websites have a multitude of helpful tips on saving energy and water, as well as contact information if you need assistance with billing issues.
For information about your electric bill, how to read your meter, get new service or report a problem, use this link to NV Energy http://nvenergy.com
If you have natural gas service or want to see if it is available, the link to Southwest Gas Corporation is helpful. Click on http://www.swgas.com
Water hook ups and water conservation tips are just part of what you can find at the Las Vegas Valley Water District site http://www.lvvwd.com/index.html
Have a question about garbage or recycling? The Republic Services site may have answers: http://www.republicservicesvegas.com/Pages/Home_St.aspx
Almost everyone knows to call 911 in the event of an on-going emergency (defined in law as a situation in which property or human life is in jeopardy and prompt summoning of aid is essential), but what other information is out there to help? Here are a few of my favorites.
When it’s not exactly an emergency, but you need to report a nuisance or something suspicious in the neighborhood, do you know that 311 is the best number to call?
Are you prepared in case a disaster strikes? Check out the Department of Public Safety’s website for emergency preparedness. www.dps.nv.gov
Nevada 2-1-1 is the first place to go if you have questions about health, family resources, care for the elderly, children’s activities and much, much more. I use this site frequently myself: http://nevada211.org
And speaking of the police, careers, area crime statistics and a great deal more are found at the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police website http://www.lvmpd.com
If your address is in Henderson, you can find out about the Henderson Police Department at http://www.cityofhenderson.com/index.php
I’ve served in the Nevada State Assembly, the lower house in the Nevada Legislature, for the past 12 years. Now I’m running for election to the open State Senate seat here in District 7 which is being vacated by Senator Care as his term expires. For some information about our state, the legislature, and Democratic party links, here is where I always start.
Nevada’s official website, containing information about all the departments and agencies, is at http://www.nv.gov
Extensive information about the Nevada Legislature—including a full set of Nevada Law (referred to as NRS, or Nevada Revised Statutes)—is just a click away at http://www.leg.state.nv.us
The Democratic Party here in Clark County has an informative site at https://www.clarkdems.com/content/view/55/71
The Nevada State Democratic party’s site is http://www.nvdems.com
In the legislature, the Democrats have caucuses in both the Assembly and the Senate. For information about each, just click on these two sites: http://nvassemblydems.com and http://www.nvsenatedems.com
