Kathy McClain

Biography

Assemblywoman Kathy McClain is currently serving her fifth term in the State Legislature. Kathy serves as Chair of the Taxation Committee and is currently a member of the Assembly Ways & Means Committee, Health & Human Services Committee and the Select Committee on Probation and Parole. She has also served on the Commerce and Labor, Judiciary, Transportation, Elections, Procedures, Ethics and Constitutional Amendments committees.

Kathy is also a member of the Nevada Commission on Aging, the Nevada Veterans’ Services Commission, Interim Finance Committee, Interim Legislative Committee on Health Care. She is also the chair of the Interim Study on Seniors & Veterans. She works closely with the Nevada Silver Haired Legislative Forum and was appointed by the Governor to serve on the state's Senior Services Strategic Plan Oversight Committee. Kathy also chairs the ADRC Advisory Committee.

Ms. McClain received a B.S. in Business Administration from Regis College in Denver, Colorado, a Master of Public Administration and an A
cademic Certificate in Gerontology from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She is affiliated with many organizations including: HELP of Southern Nevada, board member; Nevada Senior Olympics, board member; Nevada Elder Abuse Task Force, Seniors United , Women’s Democratic Club; Alzheimer’s Association of Southern Nevada; Nevada Women’s Lobby; National Conference of State Legislatures; American Association of University Women; and the NEW Leadership program at UNLV.

Kathy actively advocates for all her neighbors, whether the problem is local or state and has a strong record for helping her constituents. As a long-time resident of an “older area” in the heart of southern Nevada, Kathy works hard to make sure our schools and neighborhoods receive the same attention from state and local governments that is afforded the newly created suburbs.

Kathy McClain was born in Greeley, Colorado during World War II while Dad was serving in the Army Air Corp in England and Mom worked in a munitions factory in Denver. After the war, they moved to the family farm in Iowa and during the next several years, Kathy was joined by four siblings. Kathy returned to Colorado after high school and lived there until 1990 when she relocated to Las Vegas. Kathy’s Midwest upbringing taught her the value of hard work and responsibility.

Kathy's working career has included data processing, high school registrar and budget analyst, community college instructor, local government management analyst and program manager. Kathy is married to Dave McClain and they have three children and four grandchildren. The McClains love to cook, entertain, travel, and sail.
